LiL'ee is a pure Juliana and over 4 yrs old & weighs between 50-70 lbs~
She was one of the biggest females in her litter and is an excellent breeding sow because of it.
Lil'ee didn't have her first litter until she was completely done growing at age 4.
This is why she gave me 9 healthy pigs her first time out.
Unfortunately, most breeders are breeding sows way to early these days.
A mini pig sow should not be bred prior to age 2 & 1/2.
90% of breeders are breeding at age 1 and this is exactly why there are so many breeders selling frail piglets.
The other reason is that most breeders don't consider it unethical to breed runts.
I will only sell runts to pet homes ~ I think it's unethical to use them for breeding.
Runts are always the weakest and have the most health issues.
I feel it is wrong to breed any animal who is genetically the weakest.
For this very reason, I can not say that I sell the smallest pig available...
What I do offer is a small, healthy, pig who is both fun and easy to own.
It is my firm opinion that the majority of health issues regarding mini pet pigs are directly related to unethical breeding practices.
I intend to start an official Juliana pig registry that will have strict guidelines regarding ethical breeding and fair selling practices.
There are many breeders advertising that the pigs they sell are registered and have papers of pedigree.
BUYER BEWARE...
There is no such thing.
The papers they will give you are nothing more than hand scribbled breeding records which they believe constitutes a pedigree.
Those same breeders are selling pigs under the false belief that the pig they are buying has been genetically tested for purity.
BUYER BEWARE...
There is no such thing as genetic testing in mini pigs.
I am currently working with several leading vets to develop such a test, but as of now, there isn't one.
I am also trying to stimulate mini pig study programs in the veterinary colleges across the nation.
It is my hope to help develop some standards by which we can hold unethical breeders accountable for their actions.
Please also understand that an accurate account of the true size of a mini pig can be best assessed by measurements as opposed to weight.
Ask for measurements instead of weights and have pictures of both parents prior to buying any mini pig.
If the seller can not provide a visual representation of both parents measurements do not buy from them.
